There are many things to
consider before adopting a guinea pig. Please read the following,
and our
Why People Surrender
page for more information to consider.
You should adopt a guinea pig(s) if:
-
You are educated
with guinea pigs and know how to properly care for them.
-
You are willing to give
a forever home, which could be as long as 10 years, though the
average life span is 5-7 years.
-
You are able to give
them the proper supplies, such as an appropriate cage, food,
water, bedding, places to hide, and more.
-
You are prepared for the
cost of both supplies and vet visits. Vet visits should be done
annually, but in case of a problem or emergency, you should have
a vet on hand.
-
You have a buddy for
your guinea pig or are adopting more than one.
-
You can take the guinea
pig out daily for exercise.
-
You are able to come to
Atlanta, Georgia to adopt.
-
You are familiar with
the terms and agreements of the rescue.
You should not adopt a
guinea pig(s) if:
-
You are not educated
with guinea pigs and don't know how to properly care for them.
-
You are not willing to
commit for the whole guinea pig life span.
-
You are unable to
provide the proper supplies, cage, vet care, or take them out
regularly.
-
You aren't planning on
getting more than one guinea pig.
-
You think of guinea pigs
as practice pets and don't think they take that much care.
