Guinea Pig Homes

Now that you've set your heart on guinea pigs, where are they going to live? They can live both inside or outside, but only outside during the warmer months of the year, when the average temperature is above 65 degrees and below 75 degrees. Building your own C & C (cubes and coroplast) cage is recommended, as you can make large cages with many different designs, for the same price or cheaper as at a pet store where the cages are, for the most part, too small. Some people even dedicate whole rooms to their guinea pigs, or let them have free range of the whole house. The bedding you use can be aspen, newspaper, shredded paper, or carefresh, but never pine or cedar, as it is bad for their respiratory system. If you decide to temporarily house your guinea pigs outside they will need to be enclosed to protect them from neighbor pets, neighbor children, other predators, and running off. Outside they will need a wire run and a hutch, with all of their supplies. While outside, they should have shade and be checked on regularly. Please remember that while guinea pigs, to you, may take up too much room, they can never have too much room.

*Supplies are often at the rescue in Atlanta, Georgia, and price varies depending on the item*
